- Historical artifacts will be released as digital collectible items
The Sandbox (SAND) has announced that it will launch a collection of unique digital collectible items in collaboration with The British Museum. As part of the initiative, historical artifacts will be recreated in a digital display inside of The Sandbox’s virtual reality metaverse.
The British Museum was the first public national museum in the world when it first opened its doors in 1753. The museum documents the history of human culture and houses artifacts that were discovered across the world by British archeologists. According to a 2022 report, The British Museum now attracts over 4 million visitors on an annual basis.
The Sandbox will “offer immersive experiences that allow anyone, anywhere in the world to discover some of the objects in The British Museum.” Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox stated that “this is a great opportunity for The Sandbox players, no matter where they are in the world, to learn about and enjoy amazing collections of human history.”
Not only can The Sandbox users explore the digital displays in an immersive virtual reality world, but each item will be also minted as an NFT collectible item that can be traded on The Sandbox platform. All digital collectibles will be listed in collaboration with LaCollection — The British Museum’s official licensing partner.
What is The Sandbox?
The Sandbox is a blockchain-based gaming platform that allows players to create, share, and monetize their own metaverse creations. Its core ethos supports decentralization and community ownership, as The Sandbox enables anyone to create virtual reality experiences and trade user-generated content (UGC) in an integrated NFT marketplace.
Since it first went live in November 2021, The Sandbox has become a leading GameFi platform. The VR metaverse is a sprawling hub of custom-built gameplay experiences, ranging from full P2E games to digital avatars and collectible items which can be traded using SAND tokens.
